Official Press Release - Habs Sign Carle and Wyman to 1 year contracts

CANADIENS SIGN DEFENSEMAN MATHIEU CARLE AND FORWARD JAMES T. WYMAN TO ONE-YEAR CONTRACTS

MONTREAL (July 13, 2010) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the signing of defenseman Mathieu Carle and forward James T. Wyman to one-year, two-way contracts for the 2010-11 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Carle, 22, was held scoreless in three games with the Canadiens this season, including his first career NHL game on November 3 against the Atlanta Thrashers at the Bell Centre. He maintained a plus-1 differential while averaging 14:28 of ice time per game with the Canadiens.

The 6-foot, 203-pound defenseman also recorded 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) in 31 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10, missing 44 games due to injuries. Carle also maintained a plus-4 differential, adding 67 shots on goal and 26 penalty minutes.

A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Carle was selected in the second round, 53rd overall by the Canadiens at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Wyman, 24, was held scoreless in three games with the Canadiens this season, including his first career NHL game on November 24 against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Bell Centre.

The 6-foot-2, 199-pound right winger also recorded 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 76 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10, including three power play goals and two game-winners. Wyman also maintained a plus-9 differential, adding 163 shots on goal and 12 penalty minutes.

A native of Edina, Minnesota, Wyman was selected in the fourth round, 100th overall by the Canadiens at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
